The community of people connected through Wakatū education programmes and scholarships has a new name - Te Hunga Pānuku. The new name, which was developed in consultation with kaumatua Rore Stafford, has a broad meaning of a group of people moving up and forward.
Rachel Taulelei was named Māori Woman Business Leader for 2018 at the prestigious University of Auckland Aotearoa Māori Business Leaders Awards. The award recognises a Māori woman who has achieved significant success in her career to date.

It is a popular spot, so if you want to stay over Christmas/New Year, please make sure you apply for your permit by 10 December. This means that we can issue the permits by 20 December – just in time for Christmas!

Kono, one of the associated businesses of Wakatū Incorporation, has acquired Ngāi Tahu Seafood’s greenshell mussel assets. The assets include two purpose-built marine farming vessels and associated aquaculture equipment, the right to lease 15 marine farms in Marlborough Sounds, Tasman Bay, Golden Bay and Collingwood, as well as access to spat-catching areas.
Rachel Taulelei (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Rarua, Ngāti Koata), CEO of Kono, the food and drinks business of Wakatu, joins 13 other senior New Zealand executives and business owners as a recipient of a 2017 Prime Minister’s Business Scholarship.
Wakatū Incorporation has sold the Ocean Lodge site in Tahunanui, Nelson.
“We have had a number of plans for the development of this site over the years, most recently the Ocean View Apartments,” Wakatū Incorporation Whenua general manager Iain Sheves says. “However, the Wakatū Board made the decision to exit the project in order to concentrate on other property projects.”
Kono, the food and drinks businessof Wakatu, has launched a new look.
“We’re really proud of the new face of Kono which encapsulates the power of four - four corners of beautifully woven harakeke (flax) kono from which we take our name, four iwi to whom our owners whakapapa, and ngā wāhanga e whā o te tau, giving us our four seasons,” Rachel Taulelei, Chief Executive, Kono said.
The outcome of our appeal to the Supreme Court has been successful. We are delighted with the result. A message from our Chairman, Paul Morgan, in regards to the natural disaster that struck our region this morning - Monday 14 November 2016.
All owners and whanau are invited to attend and hear the submissions of Wakatū Incorporation on Te Ture Whenua Maori Bill 2016, to be presented by Paul Morgan, Chairman at Parliament on Wednesday 17th August 2016 at 10am.
The attached clip captures the key milestones and activity of Wakatu for 2015 and was presented to shareholders and whānau at the AGM held on the 5th December 2015.
The Supreme Court has granted leave to the Proprietors of Wakatu (represented by Wakatū Inc), Rore Stafford, kaumatua, and Te Kahui Ngahuru Trust to appeal the Court of Appeal’s 2014 decision.
