Marahau Kaitiaki

We have a great opportunity for you to work in our organisation as the Kaitiaki of our Marahau whenua.

Wakatū is charged with the care of the Marahau whenua, recognising and protecting archaeological and cultural sites of significance for the benefit of our Owners.

The Kaitiaki will be responsible for supporting Wakatū and the Manaaki sector to deliver on-site management of the Marahau whenua. With your exceptional people skills, you will establish a supportive and effective working relationship with Wakatū Owners, kaimahi and the local community, and assist with the implementation of the Wakatū strategy for Marahau.

You will have:

  • previous experience in grounds maintenance, caretaking, or campground management

  • highly developed interpersonal capabilities

  • good written and verbal communication skills

  • intermediate computer competency

Your self-motivated personality and genuine desire to uphold the mana of the whenua will see you fulfil the duties of the role to an excellent standard. Your day-to-day duties will involve caretaking, minor maintenance, managing visitors, and monitoring the private beach area. You must be comfortable in advocating on behalf of Wakatū  while maintaining positive relationships with the Marahau community.

Applicants with knowledge of the Marahau area and the history and tikanga of Wakatū are preferred.

Other duties will include:

  • ensuring our guests are well looked after

  • maintaining a hazard-free, safe, properties and campgrounds

  • completing inspections, cleaning, and maintenance checks

  • liaising with contractors and Wakatū staff

  • managing conflict and unwelcome visitors in a respectful manner

We offer a competitive salary as well as reduced rent to live in our beach-front property. Working flexibly and extended hours are expected during the busy summer period.
