We believe that self-development scholarships are a valuable opportunity for our youth to improve their self-esteem and pride in their culture.

In 2008, Wakatu Incorporation is supporting the following self-development scholarships:

  • Kotiro Wananga
  • Spirit of Adventure

Kotiro Wānanga - the overall objective of this wānanga is to empower our taiohi through education and a journey of personal growth which exposes them to new opportunities.   We believe that this wānanga (ten attendees) has something to offer to all, whether it is their first or fifth wānanga, and we ask that encourage kotiro within your whānau to apply.  All travel and course costs will be covered by Wakatū.

Spirit of Adventure – the objective is to learn and develop qualities of independence, understanding and community spirit through the medium of the sea ie. learning to sail a tall ship is a means to an end, rather than a specific objective.  Wakatū’s scholarships will cover all travel and attendance costs.
