We believe that self-development scholarships are a valuable opportunity for our youth to improve their self-esteem and pride in their culture.
In 2009, Wakatū Incorporation supported the following self-development scholarships:
- Taiaha Wānanga
- Spirit of Adventure
And in 2010, will support:
- Kōtiro Wānanga
- Spirit of Adventure
Taiaha Wānanga/Taitamawahine Wānanga - the overall objective of these wānanga (which we alternate ie. taiaha one year, taitamawahine the next) is to empower our tane/kōtiro through education and a journey of personal growth which exposes them to new opportunities. We believe that these wānanga have something to offer and we ask that encourage tāne/kōtiro within your whānau to apply. All travel and course costs are be covered by Wakatū. Applications are now being called for the Taitamawahine wānanga for late September / early October 2010.
Spirit of Adventure – the objective is to learn and develop qualities of independence, understanding and community spirit through the medium of the sea ie. learning to sail a tall ship is a means to an end, rather than a specific objective. Wakatū’s scholarships will cover all travel and attendance costs. For more information, visit www.spiritofadventure.org.nz
Applications are now being called for.
