Iwi

Wakatu Incorporation is made up of individual shareholders who have kinship ties and mana whenua over their lands.

Wakatu works very closely with local Iwi (tribes) especially on joint projects located in the top of the South Island. The shareholders belong to the following Iwi:

  • Ngati Rarua
  • Ngati Koata
  • Te Atiawa
  • Ngati Tama

There are also Maori Trusts within the area that Wakatu has a special relationship with - they are:

 

 

Incorporations

Wakatu and five other Trusts/Incorporations were formed simultaneously, having similar values and aspirations:

Wakatu has formed close alliances with some of these bodies for both political lobbying and commercial investments.

The settlements emanating from the Waitangi Tribunal have enhanced Maori Economic Development of other Iwi (tribes) with whom we seek to cooperate to enhance the overall progress of Maori. These include:
