Sea Kayaking is one of the regions most popular tourist attractions for national and international guests alike. At present there are many small owner operated kayaking companies based in the Abel Tasman.

In 2003, Wakatū Incorporation bought the two largest, oldest sea kayaking companies in Mārahau, Ocean River Kayaks and Abel Tasman Kayaks.
