PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL 2010 TERTIARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE BEEN AWARDED.
WE WILL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2011 SCHOLARSHIPS IN SEPETEMBER 2010.
Are you or any of your whānau thinking
about developing new skills?
We encourage shareholders and their whānau to apply for our tertiary education scholarships
As our economic future grows, we need confident and educated people to guide our development. We are a Māori organisation and proactively seek to build competence in our whānau to ensure we will be capable of managing our own assets going into the future.
Our tertiary education scholarships are for studies directly related to our business activities and can cover fields such as viticulture, marine biology, horticulture, law, general management, property development and management, marketing, finance, accounting, forestry etc. Study may take place in New Zealand or overseas, but must be through recognised tertiary providers.
These scholarships of up to $5,000 per annum are to cover fees and books, and may be renewed for a further two years if the applicant’s studies are successful, as assessed by our committee ie. up to a total of $15,000 over three years.
Applicants must be shareholders, or descendants of shareholders, or members of a whānau trust holding Wakatū shares, and demonstrate a strong desire to obtain qualifications, so that they could possibly take a leading role in our economic welfare.
We fully appreciate the need to encourage the development of wider skills and talents, so applications should include evidence of other achievements and contributions to Māori society. Also included in this statement should be the applicant’s educational and life aspirations, their involvement with whānau, hapū and iwi and how the applicant as an individual might contribute in future.
